It goes without saying that buying a home comes with high costs. The market right now is a seller’s market, so you may be able to get a good price for your current home, but you’ll have to buy high, as well. Study the market and compare the cost of selling your home and purchasing a new home with the cost of the remodeling projects that could make your home more appealing for several more years. You can always build up more equity by sticking around as long as possible, not to mention holding onto the memories created in your current home, too.
When to Move
Remodeling projects take time. Sometimes, they can take several months to complete, depending on the scale of the project. You might have a bathroom project that takes 4 months, for example. If you can live patiently with the inconvenience of your home going through a large remodeling project, that’s great! You’ll know that it will pay off in the end. However, if that’s not for you, you might prefer to move. There’s also the situation in which you don’t have the lot space to expand as much as you need. If you’re in a townhome, for example, or you’ve simply maxed out your current lot, moving may be the best decision for your family.
